I Believe that Children are the Future

For those that don't know, I work with Children. Not just at church but I actually get paid to now. Under normal circumstance I am the site coordinator for an elementary school before and after school program. This in general means, I plan the activities, program, and projects for a bunch of kids ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade.

But as it is summer things are a little different. All 7 elementary schools join together as one. And all the site coordinators join together as a "team". Which in general means there are too many cooks in the Kitchen. In the past week I have learned a few things about myself, my co-workers and children.

First off if ever you doubted that we are all born sinners, spend a week with a group of children ages 5 to 13. These children are so mean to eachother. I have heard so many very grown up insults thrown towards the children from the children this week. I have had children lie to my face over and over. I have had multiple children blatently disobey me consistantly.

With that I see this innoscence. Many of these children are with us from 6am to 6pm monday through friday. Many of these children have been in this program for 7 years. What this means in a nutshell is that we are raising these children. I know I can show them Jesus, but I cannot teach them about Jesus. Are they learning about Him? Do they see Jesus around them?

There is such a distinct difference in how these children carry themselves and how the children I work with at church carry themselves. Don't get me wrong I see sin and similarities in both. But just the parenting alone makes a difference.

This makes me sad for the children I spend my weekdays with. What can I do to make a difference? Do children comprehend living by example? Will these Children be able to see Jesus through me? I guess I pray they do. I have seen first hand what happens when a child is not raised knowing the Lord. I have seen what can happen when a child does not spend time with a parent, or does not have a parent who takes an interest. It can be a hard road.
